Dr. Richard Cole Receives Chiropractic
Regulation’s Highest Individual Honor
On May 3rd, 2008, Dr. Richard Cole was awarded the highest individual honor in chiropractic regulation in North America-- The George Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service to Chiropractic Regulation. The award was bestowed during the 82nd Annual Congress of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) in Atlanta, GA. The FCLB governs the licensing bodies throughout North America, and Dr. Richard L. Cole has served as treasurer, vice president and president of the FCLB in the last decade alone.
The award, named after past president Dr. George Arvidson, highlights integrity, service, sacrifice, vision and commitment to the chiropractic profession.
Dr. Cole has worked tirelessly to ensure the advancement of the FCLB through change. During his service on the board from 1996-2000, he instigated an extensive rewrite of chiropractic regulations and is currently working to develop the FCLB Model Practice Act.
However, despite the grandeur of his efforts on behalf of the FCLB, the Arvidson Award is given based on the outstanding character of the recipient. He places personal emphasis on virtues and strong core values more than anything else in his practice. He is a strong believer that servant leadership and service to others are the grounds in which chiropractic was established, and that straying from that solid foundation is unacceptable.
When delivering a lecture last year, Dr. Cole said, “We must…ensure patient protection and the highest levels of professional service [demonstrating] the appropriate attitude of service to others over service to oneself. Protection of the public is the highest of callings.” It is Dr. Cole’s integrity, ethics and vision of excellence for the chiropractic profession that separates him from mediocrity and is the reason he is the recipient of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards’ 2008 George Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service to Chiropractic Regulation.
